Wang Theater At The Boch Center
Jo Koy comes to the Wang Theatre on Friday, February 20th. This stop in Boston is part of the "Just Being Koy" tour. It could be a real turning point in his career, getting the true Joy Koy experience at its finest. Here's a guy who's been cutting his teeth on the comedy circuit for a while. Although he's made appearances in other mediums, his best work is with a mic in his hand and taking over the stage. Very few performers these days have the power to go from strength to strength in one set. You've got guys like Dave Chappelle, who's a master of the pauses and even the silence that's an art form. Then there's Joy Koy going pedal to the metal all out from the moment that he takes the stage. You can do that for a 5-minute set, not the ones he does, though. This Just Being Koy promises to bring all of the craziness of this man to the stage. Joy Koy has made a name for himself for his wacky faces and those eyes that seem to pop out of his head when he's playing a bit. At this point in his career, though, he doesn't need to oversell things. Fans know what they're getting into, and it's shaping up to be one of his best works yet. If you want to be in on the fun, then you're in the right place. This stop at the Wang Theatre could be a perfect date night idea if you forgot to take your partner out on Valentine's Day!
Truth be told, not much, and that's actually a good thing. However, as the event date draws closer, there might be some sneak peeks leaking through social media. The real question that you need to ask yourself is, do you really want to know? It's likely going to be an upbeat set with Joy Koy doing different voices, accents, however you want to call it, and popping his eyes out from time to time. There are a lot of "gimmicks" that have become synonymous with Joy Koy, and yet this can be one of the shows where they just work together perfectly.
This is a smaller venue compared to some of the other spots where Joy Koy will be taking his tour. That's good news and bad news. The good news is that you're going to have a clear view of what's happening on stage, even if you're toward the back of this venue. Remember, we said there was also some bad news, though. That is the fact that tickets are going to run out fast!
