SYNOPSIS

When Lydia Deetz’s father Charles purchases a house that also happens to be the home of the deceased Maitland-couple, and an uptight contractor is called in to remodel the house, the Maitlands call for the help of an eccentric, stripes-loving, centuries-old demon who can only be seen and freed if a living human speaks his name three times.

Lydia, together with the Maitlands, decide to sabotage a dinner party, summoning Beetlejuice, and it sends the party hilariously, and completely off the rails. However, the Ghost-With-The-Most’s chaotic, shock-jock persona completely alienates the Maitlands, and Lydia makes a deal with Beetlejuice for assistance in the Netherworld. She then descends to the Netherworld in search of her deceased mother, but instead triggers an arranged marriage with Beetlejuice himself.

The question is – will Beetlejuice’s trickery be brought to light; will Lydia be able to outsmart the demon; and will she ever be able to return to the world of the living?

While Beetlejuice: The Musical might be moving in a modernized, campy direction, with Beetlejuice as the narrator breaking the fourth wall with his improvisation-style stand-up and meta-humor driving the energy, and away from what Tim Burton-purists might expect, we have found the dark comedy, incredible stagecraft, and upbeat energy to be next-level, the choreography jaw-dropping, the dynamic ensemble absolutely amazing, the illusions and puppetry clever, and the set design striking and eye-popping. In our opinion, Beetlejuice: The Musical is spectacular, entertaining, and a must-see for audiences from all walks of life!

“And thus is conjured a very enjoyable, very self-aware, very slick, very tuneful, very constructed-to-please-the-crowd new Broadway musical.” New York Stage Review

CREATIVE TEAM

To breathe life into something as wildly entertaining and undead like Tim Burton’s 1980s cult classic Beetlejuice is wildly tricky. It takes a vision that is out of this world, talent that goes way deeper than six feet under, and a spooky amount of talent – and this production of composer and lyricist Eddie Perfect and bookwriters Scott Brown and Anthony King’s Beetlejuice: The Musical boasts exactly that!

At the helm of it all, the visionary Catie Davis (Moulin Rouge!, Indigo, The Ghost of John McCain, Forget Me Not, The Magnificent Seven) has taken a seat in the director’s chair, while the world-renowned creative team also features the talents of music supervisor and orchestrator Kris Kukul, costume designer William Ivey Long, sound designer Peter Hylenski, choreographer Michael Fatica, scenic designer David Korins, and Tony Award-winning lighting designer Kenneth Posner.

“Solid laughs, clever fourth-wall-breaking, and some strong performances.” – The Stage

HISTORY & LEGACY

1988 was a great year for cult-classic films. The world was first introduced to Michael McDowell and Larry Wilson’s demon with the thing for stripes, and after iconic director Tim Burton gave the screenplay by Michael McDowell and Warren Skaaren its bat-wings, Beetlejuice became the world’s favorite gothic comedy horror. The film was a massive commercial success, earning multiple awards, and spawning an entire media franchise.

In 2016, book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King, and composer and lyricist Eddie Perfect came together to create a brand new musical based on the Tim Burton classic – and the result was a score that is out of the Netherworld, a campy, colourful-yet-gothic spectacular that is screamingly good fun, and six feet below the surface, a touching production about family, love, and making the most of every day-o.

Beetlejuice: The Musical premiered in April 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway, with 366 performances before reopening in 2022 at the Marquis Theatre, where it played for 679 performances, and again in October 2025 for a limited engagement at the Palace Theatre. Beetlejuice: The Musical was met with much critical acclaim, landing no less than an Outer Critics Circle Award, a Drama League Award, a Drama Desk Award, a Theatre World Award, and eight Tony Award nominations.
